This past weekend was rainy and cold so I decided to do a diy project indoors. I have a 200 year old wooden hutch with the original glass. It's a charming little piece, but the wood color of orange-red was making me unhappy. I started the project at 9pm on Friday night and finished at 6pm on Sunday.
Friday: Unloaded hutch, sanded and painted on primer-inside and out
Saturday: Applied 3 coats of paint
Sunday: Applied a 4th coat of paint and painted the inside
I thought I was finished after the 3rd coat of paint, but when the paint dried, the color of the wood was still visible so a 4th coat was necessary to get the look I wanted. I'm happy with the results!
I used a Kelly Moore Primer and a glossy white base tint for the main paint. For the inside I used a silver spray paint that I picked up at Home Depot.
My husband was throwing out color ideas for the inside paint color. His first suggestion was lime green. I stopped him when he said, "silver". That was it!
