Serrano Home with Curved Path

Our customer chose Mannington Atlantis Sapele hardwood to replace carpet in the living room and dining room. As you can see from the photos there's a curved tile path between the two rooms.

Our installers grinded some high spots in the concrete and also feathered back the edges so that the hardwood floor would be flush to the ceramic tile floor. To finish off the look we install a caulking grout between the hardwood and ceramic tile. Notice the precision of the curve. This technique takes experience and patience! Our installers performed an immaculate job!

Pizza Bell on both Elk Grove Blvd and Grantline Road in Elk Grove got new makeovers!We installed new carpet on the floor and benches. Thanks to the Bell Brothers for their business!

They also painted, installed new tile, countertops, and more! Stop by for the lunch buffet or dinner to see the finished product.......

Pizza Bell has an area in the back of the restaurant that can be reserved for private parties. It's a popular spot in Elk Grove for team parties and other meetings.

Color Walls at the Mannington Booth

Surfaces (flooring indutry trade show) was a bit quiet this year, but still worth the trip. Mannington did a great job on their booth and I especially liked their color walls.

Mannington Hardwood product that imitates ceramic tile imitating hardwood. Hard to understand I know, but I think flooring people will get this one!

Work In Progress

We are currently working in a house in Folsom installing a Shaw product called Deja Vu.

I stopped by the job today to see how it is coming along. As usual the installers are doing fabulous work!

Luis has worked on our hardwood crew for 10 years. He is a skilled craftsman and does clean and precise work.

The staircase will be completed tomorrow. Be sure to check back next week for a photo of the completed stairs. This shows the beginning, with the face of the bottom stair started.

A close-up of the fireplace. We undercut the brick and installed the hardwood under the brick to make the wood look like it has been there since the house was built. The look is professional and sharp.

The customer chose a designer mix option of 2 different colored woods to accomplish the look they wanted in their home. Notice the step-down into the living room is completed, and again, the workmanship is meticulous.

Shaw and Simas at Disneyland

Last week Jan and I flew to Orange County to attend the Shaw Floors Market at Disneyland. Shaw put us up at the Grand Disneyland Hotel. Right outside the hotel is Downtown Disney and California Adventure Park.

The theme for Shaw Floors Market was "Strength Amidst Change". I think it's an appropriate theme for the times. To be more blunt, I might substitute "change" with something else. Are you familiar with the Tower of Terror ride that drops down quickly from about a 10 floor building? I think that's the change they're referring to. Change isn't always good.........

Shaw Floors had a good variety of hardwoods and laminates on display. If you're in the flooring industry you have probably noticed some of the new finishes on both hardwood and laminates. It seems the "glossy" look is coming back around. If you like dust-mopping your floor everything 5 minutes, it might be a good look for you. I'm sticking with the handscraped mat finished as long as I can!

Our Tuftex rep, Craig Early with Jan. We are bringing in a new Tuftex display to our retail showroom that will update the Tuftex collection. I think customers will like the new Anso Caress Nylon products because of how soft the yarn is! There is also a new loop product in Tuftex that looks and feels like a wool product. I'm interested to see how it will do in our retail showroom.

Jan and I outside the hotel. We had a chance to visit Disneyland and California Adventure. Can you believe a one-day hopper pass costs $97?! We got our money's worth because there were hardly any lines at all! Our favorite was Tower of Terror at California Adventure! I wasn't ready for the big drop! (Kind of like the economy!)

A new carpet line by Shaw called Modern Classics. It's made on the area rug machines and can be ordered in broadloom for wall to wall installation or area rug sizes. I've never seen a zebra pattern I like more than the one shown here! The threads are so compacted and tight that it seems like leather. The color on the zebra pattern is natural looking, instead of being a bright white and dark black. I want some of that! It would be perfect in my bedroom in an area rug!

Grey-washed Bamboo Flooring in Land Park

Our customer in Land Park had a clear vision of what she wanted in her work-out room. We custom made these curved stair-nosings to match the engineered bamboo.

This is a natural bamboo that we installed on the ceiling. The cabinets in the room are also natural bamboo.

These stairs lead up to the gym.

We are proud of the work that our hardwood installers did on this home. We were able to meet the homeowners expectations and vision of the room.

The strip on the floor to the right in the photo is a light strip. There are up-light installed with smooth rocks filling the area around the lights.

Hardwood Install in Elk Grove

Our wonderful customers in Elk Grove are very happy with their hardwood selection and the workmanship of the installation. As you can see the new hardwood is a refreshing addition to their lovely home.

Hardwood Expertise You Can Trust!

This is a 3/4" thick, 8" wide plank, solid pre-finished hickory. The wood is reclaimed and laminated together to reduce cupping problems. The look is unique and grand.

We installed the upstairs loft, hallway, and master bedroom. The customer is very happy with the look of this product and the installation. They are looking to give their home a "mountain resort" feel. They also installed a stone fire place in the master bedroom and stone flooring. The stone combined with this 8" plank is both rich and warm looking.

Andy and Guillermo. Andy runs the hardwood crew and has worked for Simas Floor and Design Company for over 25 years. He is a hardwood expert and we're fortunate to have such a knowledgeable, experienced and long-term employee. Guillermo installs hardwood and window blinds for Simas. He takes pride in performing clean and precise work.

The loft after the original carpet was tore out. This room was level enough, but the master bedroom had peaks and valleys in the sub-floor. We were able to sand some of the plywood and build up other areas in order to make it work. We never know what we might run into when we estimate a floor that is covered by old flooring. Spotlight Elk Grove

Simas Floor and Design Company supports the Elk Grove Community Foundation through Spotlight Elk Grove. The theme this year was Hollywood Westerns. This is a night FULL of food, wine and music. It's one of the more fun and casual fundraising events in Elk Grove. The Elk Grove Community Foundation provides college scholarships for students graduating from the Elk Grove Unified School District. Simas Floor and Design Company is a sponsor of one of those scholarships.

KSSJ Concert Series - Rick Braun, Jonathan Butler and Richard Elliot

Rick Braun made an entrance from the back and through the audience. The other musicians called him "Skinny Rick" He was fun to watch and hear!

Richard Elliot has some "interesting" moves when he plays! Unfortunately we didn't get a photo of Jonathan Butler! I don't know why! He was my favorite! I think when he was on stage I enjoyed watching and listening so much that I forgot to snap a photo!

Gaby and John Chandler with my husband Andrea Carli. John and Gaby own Allstate Insurance offices in and around Sacramento. They also are owners of Le Rivage Hotel, the most beautiful hotel in Sacramento. It's on the river located close to the downtown area off I-5. There's a Scott's Seafood Restaurant on location with a beautiful view of the River and the luxurious Lale Spa located inside the hotel. If you want to do fabulous in Sacramento--Le Rivage is the place to be.

Simas Floor and Design Company is sponsoring the KSSJ Concert Series. The first 2009 concert was on May 15--which was the first day of the Auburn Home Show. We've been busy! Simas is sponsoring the red carpet entry area and we also have a table showcasing our products and services. Hope you can make it to some of the concerts--it's a fun night out!

The concert was called Guitars & Saxes featuring Euge Groove, Jeff Lober, Jeff Golub & Jessy J.

Here I am with Phil Cowan at our table at the KSSJ Jazz Concert. Phil is a blast to work with--so glad that I've had the opportunity!

This is our booth at the Auburn Home Show on May 15-17. Do you think there's enough signage? It was a hot weekend! We met a lot of nice people and were able to give them straight forward information about their flooring questions.

Cork Floors are Beautiful and Green

This is our new Cork FLOORING display by Natural Cork. Yes, Cork is a great choice for your floors! The colors and designs are stylish and versatile. Trees are not cut down or harmed in any way as they regenerate the bark.Natural Cork offers a great selection of colors and designs. They also designed hardwood plank sizes in 5" widths that gives the look of hardwood. You have to come in and see this for yourself. Once you see it, you'll be looking for a room in your house where you can get cork installed.

This color is called Rustico. Installed, it looks like a leather floor--Fabulous Looking!

Color: Scirocco. This comes in wide tiles - 18" x 24".

It's hard to see in this photo, but there are light blue tones that run through this color.

This color is called Sevilla and has the classic look of cork.

Lincoln Hills Auburn Home and Business Expo

On Friday April 17th we participated in the Home and Business Expo at Lincoln Hills in Auburn, CA. We met some great people there and enjoyed visiting and making friends. The day was beautiful and I'm sorry the photo is shadowed. The sun was so bright outside that my flash wasn't strong enough to take the shadow away.
